New wheelchair accessible vans for PASSi

PASSi new vans

Penn Asian Senior Services christens two new wheelchair accessible vans with support from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation!

The two new buses will provide much needed transportation to seniors from PASSi’s adult day care program, Penn Asian Jubilee Center.  Seniors served through Penn Asian Jubilee Center are low-income, primarily English-limited Asian Americans residing in Greater Philadelphia.  Language barriers inhibit these seniors from utilizing public transit services including CCT Connect.

Also, construction progress of the new Penn Asian Evergreen Community Center is ongoing.  This community center will have an heated, indoor swimming pool, gym, café and a 350 seat auditorium among many other amenities.  PASSi is committed to promoting healthy living and an active lifestyle for all ages.  Expected completion of the center is December, 2018.

Let the healing begin

PASSi Healing Garden

In July 2016, PASSi completed the installation of its “Healing Garden,” a stone, raised patio garden that overcomes barriers to gardening for seniors. The height allows the seniors to garden while standing and the study stone material allows them to sit while gardening as well.

The surrounding stone walkway also makes it senior friendly and accessible for wheelchairs and walkers. The garden got its name because many Asian cultures use herbs and plants for healing purposes. Our hope is to give our seniors the opportunity to connect with their culture by growing herbs & vegetables that they will use, as well as reap the benefits of moderate physical activity and having access to fresh produce.

The complete garden area now includes the raised garden (Healing Garden), a tranquil fish pond (Peace Pond), and ground-level vegetable garden. Now that spring is finally here, plants are starting to come up. Stop by soon and let the healing begin!
